2024 GARRIGUES GUITAR FESTIVAL | The Garrigues Guitarfest claims a musical ode to Peace and Culture!

  • The Garrigues Guitarfest returns with more guitars to the Garrigues heritage with new cultural and gastronomic experiences.

  • La Granadella and Torrebesses reconfigure the image of the maestro Emili Pujol with the third edition of the Contest and Campus.

The festival will start on Saturday, July 6 at the Church of Assumpció de la Mare de Déu in El Soleràs with a concert by the Blua Maro duet, formed by the mezzo-soprano Anna Tobella and the guitarist and composer Eugeni Muriel. This vibrant and dynamic show includes opera arias, classical songs and traditional songs, as well as original works by Muriel. Its staging promises to be unique and close. The following Friday, Belmin Okanović, winner of the last edition of the Llobet Contest, will continue in Torrebesses in the Sant Salvador Church with a program of great works of guitar literature. At only 26 years old, this talented guitarist has won more than 20 international awards. Saturday in Els Torms, the duo Alenta Duo, formed by the violist Ana Valero and the concert pianist and researcher Raúl Viela, will present “On the two shores”, a musical journey through Latin America. This concert explores the musical tradition of seven countries on both sides of the Atlantic, fusing folklore with classical music. And on Sunday, Les Borges Blanques will host Anila Padrós & Trio Desconcierto with the show “Songs with Trementina”, a musical story that explores the popular Catalan songbook through the narrative of the young Aina and her grandmother.

Starting on Friday, July 19, we will visit the Garrigues Altes, in La Granadella, where the renowned guitarist Anabel Montesinos will perform “Baroque Inspiratio” in the Santa Maria de Gràcia Church. Montesinos, winner of multiple international awards, will offer a baroque-inspired recital. La Granadella will also be the setting for the 2024 Pujol Contest, an international competition for young guitarists that includes original works by the musician Emili Pujol. We will stop at the Vinya dels Artistes of the Mas Blanch i Jové in La Pobla de Cérvoles with a visit, tasting and concert by the Duo Malibran, which will combine traditional songs from England, the Mediterranean and the romances of Maria Malibran. The festival will continue with the final of the 2024 Pujol Contest, which will take place in the Auditorium of the La Granadella Civic Center, with the special participation of the Barcelona Guitar Orchestra. And the closing will close with the awards ceremony.

The 3rd Pujol Campus will be held in Torrebesses, stays for the bodily search for physical/psychological balance and the methodical and pedagogical study of classical guitar from the philosophical perspective of maestro Pujol. Rural and natural coexistence, where its closing will offer the public a guided tour of the Bep de Canut Mill and a concert with oil tasting. The program will continue with various concerts by prominent artists such as José Antonio Chic in Vinaixa, La Folia Consort in Arbeca, Sara Guerrero again in Torrebesses, and Tangozzolla in Granyena de les Garrigues. Each performance promises a unique experience, with a repertoire that ranges from classical music to folklore and new Argentine tango.

Starting on Friday, August 9, the experiences will continue at the Roca dels Moros Cave Ensemble in Cogul, a World Heritage Site, which will host a concert by Alba Avilés & Victor Paradis Quartet with a journey towards Latin jazz. La Floresta Castle will be the scene of a concert by the Duo Rubio-Franch & Andrea Peirón, presenting “Essences”, with melodies and harmonies from universal folklore and which will include a guided tour and tasting of local products. L’Espluga Calba will continue with the heritage exhibition with a visit to the Immaculada Concepció Church and its spectacular frescoes followed by the performance of Astrolabi, a show that celebrates Catalan cultural heritage with pieces from the 18th century. The festival will culminate with performances by Elisa Arias & Dani Jané in Bellaguarda, Karol Samuelčík in Torrebesses, and Pacífico Sur Trio at Vinya els Vilars in Arbeca, offering a fusion of Latin American rhythms with tasting of homegrown wines.
