Emili Pujol, born on April 7, 1886 and named favorite son in 1967 of La Granadella, is once again in the news by calling for the fourth edition of the Emili Pujol International Guitar Competition. A classical guitar performance competition for guitarists up to 35 years old and with the purpose since 2019 of promoting the knowledge and illustration of his compositional work. A well-deserved and fair tribute given to him by his hometown and which positions La Granadella as the second most important competition in Catalonia, behind the already veteran competition dedicated to the figure of his friend and professional colleague Miquel Llobet.
The competition comprises two phases. In the first qualifying phase, the registered participants will perform the compulsory work by maestro Pujol “Fantasía breve”, whose subtitle “De pasos largo y trabados sobre el nombre Salcedo” advocates dedication to Don José Salceda; together with a work of free choice of maximum 5 minutes. In the second final phase, the three finalists will perform the compulsory work “Impromptu”, a composition dedicated to his mother; and a work of maximum 8 minutes in length.
A jury of proven musical suitability will award the order of the prizes, whose prizes amount to 3,000 euros, paid concerts, a professional audiovisual recording of the works of Emili Pujol and a scholarship to participate in the Pujol Campus of the next edition. The attending public also has a responsibility with their vote to choose by majority which interpretation they liked the most, returning the next edition with a paid concert.
The final of the Pujol Competition will also have surprises and extraordinary performances.
